Details of Sanusi meeting with Tinubu

The meeting is holding a few hours after the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), met with the junta leaders in Niger Republic.

Sanusi Lamido Sanusi arrived at the Presidential at about 8:25 pm immediately after a high delegation of the Nigeria Islamic Ulama met with the President, Vanguard reported.

When asked about his visit to Niger, the former Emir simply said, it’s fine.

At the time of filing this report, Sanusi was still meeting with the President.

Niger junta declined a meeting with US delegate

This meeting came after the military junta declined a scheduled meeting with representatives from the African Union (AU), the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), and diplomats from the United States, The Guardian report added.

Niger has been in the international spotlight following a military coup that has sent shockwaves through the region for the past few days.

The country’s presidential guard, a group that was supposed to protect democratically elected President Mohamed Bazoum, blockaded the presidential palace.

The Nigeria Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has revealed its position regarding the sanctions imposed by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

On Wednesday, August 9, NSCIA’s deputy secretary-general, Salisu Shehu, said the council has opposed the sanctions imposed on Niger by ECOWAS following the Wednesday, July 26 coup in the West African country.

Former Emir Sanusi meets Niger Coup leaders, photos, video emerge

Muhammadu Sanusi II, the 14th Emir of Kano and grand Khalifah of the Tijjaniyah Muslim Group in Nigeria, has visited Niamey, the capital of the Niger Republic and held a private meeting with the leader of the military junta, General Tchani.

In a video shared by Daily Trust and photos by Leadership on their Twitter pages, the former governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) was seen engaging the military leaders, suspecting to be on the political development in the country.

However, it was not clear in what capacity Sanusi embarked on the journey to the Niger Republic, the West African country that recently severed its diplomatic ties with Nigeria over its stance against the military rule in the country.
